November 2023

What’s been happening?

Wow November has just flown by! Te has been a busy bee, not just playing gigs but also performing in a musical and flying to Wellington to receive his Gold Duke of Edinburgh award!

At the beginning of the month Te had been asked to DJ for the Team Social ‘Ties and Tiaras’ disco. The night was a lot of fun, starting with some heavy lifting and walking all the gear to the venue, before setting up and sound checking. Around 10 minutes before the event was about to kick off, I decided to fire up the smoke machine that had been requested – to warm it up and make sure it was working smoothly – when the smoke alarms went off!

Because it was a council building, everybody had to evacuate the building until the fire engines turned up to disable the alarms – including the kitchen staff who were busy cooking pizzas! A rather exciting start to the disco, I was relieved I decided to test the smoke machine before it started and not halfway through! Te enjoyed the commotion, there were many smiles and laughs being shared.

Our Tuesday practise sessions have been dedicated to practising slower fades and allowing songs that mix well to play together before switching them out. We’ve been practising for Te’s gig in December ‘Shine Night 2023’ where Te will be following a set routine of fade times for a specific list of songs which will be a new experience for him, and one he’s excited for!

Leo: “What was your favourite part of this month?”

Te: “I don’t know…just having fun!”

What’s coming up?

In early December Te will be DJing for Shine Tribe’s end of year event – catch the next blog to hear all about that! Beyond the Shine Tribe gig, there are no more gigs booked before the end of the year, so will most likely just be the weekly practise sessions until a wee summer break.
